Silver Spring, Md. – October 12, 2022 –A group of 24 ocean conservation organizations signed and delivered a letter with recommendations for the President and key members of the administration to strengthen the National Marine Sanctuaries System and implementation of the Sanctuaries Act.
The 50th anniversary of the Sanctuaries System is coming up on October 23, and is an opportunity to celebrate national marine sanctuaries, and raise the ambition for the program.
Strengthening protections for our Sanctuary System will help reach America the Beautiful goals of tackling biodiversity loss, mitigating impacts of climate change, and increasing equitable access to nature.
